interface design
For over a century, science fiction writers and filmmakers have set fire to our imaginations with their fantasies of what’s to come. But can anyone accurately guess how things will look in the distant technological future? Surely it’ll involve some type of user-centred design and digital interaction of the sort we’ve yet to visualise. But for the moment, we’re happy giving people straightforward, logical and uncomplicated ways to accomplish their goals. And while the word ‘interface’ often gets used in reference to visual structures like typography, colour and brand elements, we can’t forget about the other essentials of information architecture: navigation, search and labelling. Ultimately the focus falls on the cultural context of technology, where best practice, clarity and engineering overlap.
